Jobie Reviews Music 100: New Generation Invangellion IF- (album) by OMEGA ZERO PROJECTION

New Generation Invangellion-IF is a 2014 breakcore/dance/drum ‘n’ bass/techno (there’s many different genres that are present in this album) by OMEGA ZERO Projection. The album is an enormous 42 tracks long, spanning 2 hours and 53 minutes of music - almost 3 hours of music in total! And before you ask, yes, I did, in fact, listen to the entire thing with only a few breaks in between. Anyway, the album is a very lengthy mix of many genres, including dance, drum n’ bass, and techno, as previously mentioned in the first sentence of this review. There is definitely no shortage of bassy tunes on this album, with most tracks having lots of it. Later tracks have even more bass to them, but we’ll get to that in a bit.

The album, on occasion, doesn’t offer much variety to the user, but this is mostly only found on the first few tracks of the album. Other than that though, the instrumentation itself is pretty great, with many bassy tracks (as mentioned earlier) found throughout the entirety of the album. Later on in the album (past track 12, which is the last original song before the album becomes exclusively remixes of the first 12 tracks on it), the album incorporates more musically interesting elements into its composition, such as what sounds like sci-fi lasers in some of its tracks (for example, “The Kizer - Neuron Processor Industrial Techno Mix”), and even faster, bassier tracks (for example, “Master of Nrg-Core - Goreevil Schranz Core Mix”).

Each type of mix (those being “Goreevil Schranz Mix”, “Astral-G-Projection Mix”, “Needless Speedcore Mix”, “Mechana Acid Techno Mix”, “Nanon Drum ‘n’ Bass Mix”, “Zodaic Arsenail Downtempo Mix”, and “Argoollia Zwog Xvi Extreme Nrg Mix”) (with a few unique ones too), has specific elements which apply to all tracks mixed under this style. For example, most tracks that are labeled “Neuron Processor Industrial Mix” feel very sci-fi-esque, with the aforementioned laser sounds part of its composition. Another example would be tracks that are labeled “Goreevil Schranz Mix”, which typically means that the track will feature a heavy bass sound, accompanied by a faster tempo.

It is in this regard that the album can have a variety of different feels to it, from the fast, bassy tracks, all the way to the sci-fi sounds of the Neuron Processor Industrial Mixes. This is also why it’s hard to classify this album under just one genre, since it has many different, distinctive feels. This certainly adds a wide variety of instrumentation to the album, which makes its runtime feel significantly shorter than how long it actually is.

There’s really nothing to bash the album on music-wise, but I will say that having 90% of the album be just remixes feels kind of lazy. The album makes up for this by, as previously mentioned, having a wide, distinct variety of sounds contained within its nearly 3 hour runtime.

I would also like to briefly mention that this artist is fairly underground - actually, scratch that, very underground, with only 1,131 plays on their most popular song. The only way I was able to find this artist in the first place was not through Spotify’s great recommendation system - which might be possible, even with their underground nature, but I’m not certain - but instead I found this album after I made an April Fools joke involving this series a bit ago (which wasn’t published on this website).

Basically, I made a Jobie Reviews Music entry for an album that didn’t exist, titling it an absurd number and making the review take place in the year 2100. I made up a name that was very familiar to the title of this album, and, by some astronomical coincidence, there was an album with an uncanny resemblance to the one I made up on Spotify.

My favorite tracks from this album are “Maylsjtrahm - Original Mix”, “The Gate of Vigher - Original Mix”, “The Killer Nrg on Dj Ersh - Original Mix”, “Master of Nrg-Core - Dj Satsugai Extratone Mix”, “Monster of Nrg-Core - Neuron Processor Digital Hardcore Mix”, “Master Nrg-Core - Argoollia Zwog Xvi Extreme Nrg Mix”, “The Kizer - Zodiac Arsenali Dub Ambient Mix”, “New Generation-Ivangellion- - Zodiac Arsenali Dub Mix”, “New Generation-Ivangellion- Argoolia Zwarg Xvi Extreme Nrg Mix”, and “New Generation-Ivangellion-LD -Astral-G-Projection Mix” (I know that looks like a lot of favorites, but keep in mind that this track is 42 tracks long).

Overall, New Generation Invangellion-IF is an interesting blend of a variety of different electronic music styles, ranging from techno, all the way to breakcore. Its instrumentation is of high quality, with no shortage of bassy, fast-paced tracks. Its 3 hour runtime may mostly be due to the fact that 90% of the album is just remixes of the first 12 tracks, but it makes up for this with its musically interesting nature. Check this one out if you’re looking for fast-paced, bassy electronic madness.
