Jobie Reviews Music 102: Curse of Eldorado (album) by Ghoultown. Requested by F63.

Curse of Eldorado is a 2020 punk twang album by the band Ghoultown. It is 12 tracks long, spanning 43 minutes of music. The album is a refreshing blend of punk rock and western elements which go together to make for an intriguing, unique listen. The album combines the fast-paced, distinctively delivered vocals of punk rock with the classic western style.

This makes the album a very unique listen indeed, as it’s nothing like anything I’ve heard before. I actually really love punk rock, and I can say that this album manages to blend one of my favorite genres effortlessly in order to create something amazing. The quality of the instrumentation is there too, as the rock melodies are very akin to punk rock, with its very deliberate nature encompassing that album’s tracks.

The album’s lyrical themes are about what you would expect - Western themed lyrics that fit the instrumentation very well. I would also like to take a brief second to compliment the cover art to this album, which captures the aesthetic and overall feel of the album perfectly.

The track “Heads You Die, Tails I’ll Kill You” in particular starts off with a very nice drum sound, which then turns into one of the album’s greatest points, with its great instrumentation being very apparent on this track in particular.

One more thing to point out about this album is that the track “Running from the Sun” takes a brief departure from the fast-paced nature of the other tracks. It’s a considerably slower-paced track, with a more solemn tone in its vocals and instrumentation. A welcome deviation, indeed.

My favorite tracks from this album are “Bullets Don’t Argue”, “Trail of the Snake”, and “Eldorado”.

Overall, this album is a great blend of punk rock - one of my favorite music genres - and Western instrumentation, making for an interesting listen which is sure to entertain all listeners. Even if you don’t like this album, you have to compliment it on its unique aesthetic. A great album overall, really.
