Jobie Reviews Music 103: Gnork (album) by Rectal Smegma. Requested by F63.

Gnork is a 2019 goregrind album by the band Rectal Smegma. It contains 17 tracks, spanning 30 minutes of music. In its 30 minute runtime, the band delivers everything you’d expect from a goregrind album, from their inhuman (but great) vocals, to their insane instrumentation which is the key point of the entire album. The album makes itself stand out by offering up a distinctive, fast-paced sound which similar albums don’t have.

The album, ignoring the vocals (since they don’t make any sense to judge in this case - but they are pretty good), has a great blend of fast-paced, perfectly loud goregrind melodies which get even faster with tracks like “Poop Chute Meets Morning Wood”. The absolute intensity of the instrumentation on this album is the main reason to listen to it, as they’re unforgiving and relentless in the best possible way.

Being a goregrind album, there are no shortage of random bits and pieces that are added onto the album’s already aggressive display of guitar talent, such as screams and other random sound effects. The titles, like most goregrind albums, are disgusting in just the right way - with the track “Shit Squirting Sandy” perhaps being the best of these downright absurd titles.

The last track, “Beer and Benefits”, is a notable departure from the other 16 tracks on the album. Unlike the other 16 tracks, which are of the insane instrumentation and equally insane, unintelligible vocals variety, this one has lyrics which can be easily deciphered by the average person. They’re mostly just the name of the song coupled with a few other lines of lyrics, so don’t get too excited. It is, however, a nice little diversion from the other 16 tracks.

My favorite tracks from this album are “Ballads of Balls”, “Quality Is Our Mission” (a very fitting name), “Poop Chute Meets Morning Wood”, and “Foreskin Mask”.

Overall, Gnork is a great showcase of insane instrumentation and equally insane, unintelligible in the best possible way, vocals which define the album’s chaotic nature. Definitely a recommended listen if you liked any of the other pornogrind/goregrind albums that I’ve reviewed up to this point.

Overall rating:
