Shadows from the Past is a 2018 heavy metal album by the band Lords of the Trident. The album contains 11 tracks, spanning 48 minutes and 14 seconds of music. The album has fantastic instrumentation, with epic heavy metal melodies encompassing the entire album. The album sets itself apart with its great sound, oftentimes producing almost thematic vocal sections.
The album is great, from its first track all the way to the last. This owes itself to Lords of The Trident’s incredible vocal delivery, coupled with the aforementioned heavy metal sound which makes this album stand out. There are also really no points in the album where the quality drops either, as each track is just as good as the last.
The pacing of the album can range from being at a medium speed (but still full of energy), to fast heavy metal melodies - for example, the track “Burn It Down (With Fire) [feat. Brittney Slayes]”. This makes the album varied, with individual tracks sticking out because of their different instrumentation.
The lyrics are pretty great too, being creative and fitting the tone of the album very well. Coupled with the vocals, they enhance the album's already awesome sound. Think of it like the soundtrack to a quest or adventure, since that’s what the album sounds like.
I’d also like to comment on the track “Figaro” in particular. It starts off slowly, but gradually picks up pace. It utilizes its 7 minute run time to create an orchestral sound, which makes the track a heavy metal theme song of greatness. With its soundtrack-esque vocals, it’s certainly one of the highlights of the 48 minute album.
My favorite tracks from this album are “Zero Hour”, “Figaro”, and “Brothers of Cain”.
Overall Shadows from the Past is a great heavy metal album, full of soundtrack-esque tracks which feel like they could be the soundtrack to some grand adventure. Tracks like “Figaro” perhaps highlight this the best, showing off all of the album’s strengths in their runtime. This album is an all around great listen, and you really can’t go wrong with it.
