Jobie Reviews Music 122: The Bodycount Continues (album) by Make Them Die Slowly. Requested by F63.

The Bodycount Continues is a 2020 black metal album by Make Them Die Slowly. It is 10 tracks long, spanning 36 minutes and 32 seconds in length. The album has some very good elements to its overall composition, with a variable instrumentation being present across its 10 tracks. Each track is highly energetic, with the vocals going along perfectly with its already great sound.

It is also worth noting that Make Them Die Slowly is the side project of Anaal Nathrakh vocalist Mick Kenney. It’s very easy to see this fact in each track’s sound, with the signature Nathrakh sound being present on the album. However, there are a few key differences here. Tracks on this album are generally a lot more melodic elements sprinkled in. The band also incorporates elements of horror movies into the album, with a rendition of the Halloween Theme being present on the track “Hack-O-Lantern”.

Each track can stand out on its own, with “Request Backup” being particularly noticeable for making the most use of the piano than any other track on the album. That track in particular also leads into “The Bodycount Continues”, which is the only smooth transition present on the album. I think that starting out the album in this manner enhances the buildup to the main tracks, also serving as a nice piece of variety.

Although each track on the album is of high quality, the album really takes off after track 4. From there on out, Make Them Die Slowly go all out, putting out an incredible sound which made an already great album even better than before.

My favorite tracks from this album are “Camp Cadaver”, “Hack-O-Lantern”, “Thrill Me!”, and “Dead Alive”.

Overall, The Bodycount Continues is an excellent display of sound which never fails to disappoint across its 10 tracks. Despite what I said in Jobie Reviews Music 5 about Anaal Nathrakh (which I now disagree with, by the way), Nathrakh’s sound, combined with some fresh elements mixed in with it, makes for a great listen. Pick this one up if you want something similar, but also different in several ways, from Endarkenment.

Overall rating:

9/10
