Jobie Reviews Music 124: Locomotive-Anarchy (album) by Mongol Shuudan. Requested by F63.

Locomotive-Anarchy (or Паровоз-анархия) is a 2012 rock/punk rock album by Mongol Shuudan (Монго́л Шууда́н in Russian). It is 13 tracks long, spanning 37 minutes and 25 seconds of music. The album’s sound is quite enjoyable, with a nice blend of punk rock and rock tracks sprinkled throughout the album’s run time. The great sound that the album offers stems from the variation that Mongol Shuudan offer, with each track having interesting elements integrated into them.

For example, some tracks offer up some variety by displaying a couple of elements typical of folk music into their instrumentation. This can be heard with the addition of, say, horn instruments, into the track’s sound. This also keeps the album distinct from similar albums, since not many albums use Mongol Shuudan’s precise style of instrumentation. One track, “Maroussia”, even has a hint of funk in its instrumentation. The album’s interesting composition makes for a welcome sound that is sure to be appreciated by most listeners.

Aside from a few instances of iffy vocals, the album’s vocals, instrumentation, and overall sound deliver where they need to. Each track is produced well, with no one track feeling lackluster or bland. No complaints here.

The album has a few purely rock tracks (“Requisitioning”), along with a great deal of punk rock tracks (“Mother-Anarchy”). The inclusion of both styles offers up a hint of variety, which is always welcome on any album.

My favorite tracks from this album are “Requisitioning”, “Anarchy-Locomotive”, “Song of the Black Anarchists”, “Chapaevsky Twist”.

Overall, Locomotive-Anarchy is a great album that offers up a fair bit of variety in its 37 minutes and 35 second run time, which can be heard in its inclusion of varied sound across its 13 tracks. There’s nothing about this album that’s dire enough to make a serious complaint over, which, as you may have guessed, makes this album a great, enjoyable listen.
