Defence of Moscow is a 2021 war metal single by the band Sabaton. It is 4 minutes and 8 seconds long. Across these 4 minutes and 8 second, Sabaton demonstrates what they’ve demonstrated time and time again: their signature song style is still going strong, and it shows no sign of waning. The vocal delivery, instrumentation, and the overall quality of the track are perfect, with every minute of its production sounding enjoyable.
It should also be noted that this song is a cover of the track of the same name (but in Russian) by RADIO TAPOK. Listening to the two tracks back to back, Sabaton clearly nailed the cover, adding their own flair to the track which still keeps the essence of the original.
By far the most subtle nod to the subject matter in the song (besides the clear as day lyrics which illustrate said subject matter perfectly), is the cover of the U.S.S.R anthem that can be heard at 3:08. It fits with the rest of the track so well that I didn’t even notice it when I first listened to this track, but it’s a very welcome, and interesting, detail.
Overall, Defence of Moscow is a perfect cover of a great song, which keeps the essence (but adds Sabaton’s flair) to its sound. The great composition of the album allows Sabaton to incorporate very subtle elements to its sound, as discussed above, which adds to the track’s already great illustration of the subject matter at hand. No complaints here.
