Jobie Reviews Music 130: Greatest Hits (album) by Queen. Requested by one of my friends.

Greatest Hits is a 1981* album by the band Queen. It is 17 tracks long, spanning 59 minutes and 5 seconds of music. As you may have guessed by the title of the album, it’s a 17 track compilation of Queen’s greatest hits. The title of the album is very fitting indeed, as the album features a track after track display of Queen’s greatest classics. No one song on the album weighs it down, as every track is a wonderful showcase of Queen’s signature sound.

The album starts off with one of Queen’s greatest songs of all time, “We Will Rock You”. It’s a very great start to an album filled with great tracks, featuring a heavy instrumentation and a very catchy chorus. The inclusion of this track at the start serves as a sign for the greatness to come, kicking off the compilation with a very high quality track.

After this, the album continues to deliver tracks that are of very high quality. Each track on here is very well made, with tracks having utterly flawless instrumentation and vocals. Along the way, we see Queen deliver an array of songs with catchy choruses, cleverly crafted sound, and all in all, everything that makes Queen great is featured on this album.

Even if you’ve only listened to one-or even none-of Queen’s albums, you’ll certainly love at least one track on the 17 track compilation. As indicated by the title, all of Queen’s greatest hits are here, including hits like “We Will Rock You” (as talked about earlier), “We Are The Champions”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, and many, many more. These tracks are immensely popular, and for good reason. You simply can’t go wrong with Queen’s sound that’s displayed thoroughly on this album!

It’s incredible that an album has so many back to back awesome tracks, with Queen managing to impress track by track. As of writing this review, it’s probably the album with the most awesome tracks featured on Jobie Reviews Music.

Of course, since the album has hits from nearly every era of Queen’s career, there are a few tracks which showcase a divergence from Queen’s more well known sound. The last track, “I Want to Break Free”, is a more synth focused, 80s packed tune, for example. It relies heavily on this sound as well, with very few rock elements on display. Still, the track, like all 16 other tracks on the album, is of high quality, with the great vocals and instrumentation talked about earlier still applying to this track as well.

Speaking of “I Want to Break Free”, I feel as though it’s very fitting for it to be the last track on the album. It feels like the credits song to a great movie, which, keeping in mind that the album nearly hits the 1 hour mark, fits very well.

My favorite tracks from the album include “We Will Rock You”, “Another Ones Bites the Dust”, “Play the Game”, “Somebody to Love’, and “Don’t Stop Me Now” (in case you were wondering, this was a very tough call to make).

Overall, Greatest Hits is an incredible showcase of Queen’s signature sound. With this album, you get a 17 track compilation of some of Queen’s best moments, with every Queen hit you could think of being featured on this album. It’s almost fruitless for me to say that this album is awesome, and it’s one of the best compilation albums, if not the best, that I’ve reviewed on Jobie Reviews Music. Though the album is 40 years old, its sound is utterly timeless.
