Pekko Aikamiespoika is a Finnish folk album released in 1992 by Timo Koivusalo. The album is what you expect from a Finnish folk album, with “good vibes” music present throughout the entirety of the 39 minute runtime. What sets this album apart from other Finnish albums that I’ve reviewed so far is the relatively unique feel this one brings. While sounding similar to most Finnish folk, tracks like “Rälläti rälläti” make this album unique. In that track, Koivusalo… raps? Yes, you heard that right. He raps. Surprisingly, this rap song is very good. Perhaps it's mostly because I can’t understand the lyrics, but even so the instrumental work in this once makes it a good track.
Something else I would like to add is that despite being a 39 minute album, it hardly feels like that. The tracks are so good that you forget that you’ve been listening to over half an hour, which is a surefire indicator of a great album. Nice job, Koivusalo!
