The Poison is a 2005 album by heavy metal band Bullet for My Valentine. Across its 13 tracks and 53 minute run time, Bullet for My Valentine creates a powerful sound which absolutely rattles your eardrums, and in a good way. The guitar, the drums, and the vocals all come together to make the absolute BANGER sound that I’ve heard on Bullet for My Valentine tracks prior to listening to this album (Namely “Hand of Blood”, which is on this album depending on the version; not the one I’m listening to, however).
Tracks such as “Tears Don’t Fall” perhaps bring out this sound the best. While not energetic throughout the entire track, the track still reverberates explosive metal sound later in the track, making for a listening experience that other metal albums on this series sadly couldn’t match.
Besides “Tears Don’t Fall”, the album also manages to deliver the same sort of glorious sound with “Suffocating Under Words of Sorrow (What Can I Do)”, which starts off explosive and ends in the same way.
Despite “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)” starting off with an acoustic guitar, the track of, course, swiftly changes to the familiar metal sound the rest of the album has established. A good track indeed.
The titular track, “The Poison”, 100% deserves to be the titular track. Not only does it contain the awesome sound that’s been heard up to this point in the album, but it’s one of the higher energy tracks of the many that are contained on this album. Overall, a nice track.
The closing track, “The End” follows in the same vein, with the same elements the other tracks have able to be found here. Across its 6 minutes, it manages to feel like 2 songs in one track, having a guitar sound that feels like smooth transitions into another song. Amazing track.
Overall, this album delivers an amazing sound that anyone who enjoys heavy metal will be sure to enjoy. Bullet for My Valentine manages to perfect all the elements that make this album great: the guitar, the vocals, even the overall feel. This makes it no surprise that the album managed to be certified platinum, selling over 2 million copies in total.
Overall rating:
9.2/10
