Jobie Reviews Music 32: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (album)

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge is a 2004 rock album by My Chemical Romance. The album is about half an hour long, encompassing 13 tracks. This album is particularly famous for the two songs “Helena” and “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, and not without reason. Those two tracks are among some of the highlights in this awesome 2000s era rock album. My Chemical Romance shows off their unique style in this album and others like it, with perfect vocals and sound to match.

I especially like the track “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, which, if this were a review for that song, would get a solid 10/10. I can’t really describe it, but the track is a banger in almost every regard. From the chorus, the intro, and even the ending of the song, it’s one of the absolute essential listens of this album for anyone who likes rock.

Even the less famous tracks manage to be an absolute joy to listen to. Such tracks include “Thank You for The Venom”, “I Never Told You What I Do For A Living”, and “Cemetery Drive”. These tracks all retain the excellence of hits like “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”, unlike some albums which fall flat after a singular hit

But perhaps the most awesome thing about this album isn’t the excellent sounding songs, but how MCR managed to make so many good songs in a singular album. Some albums can fail miserably at this, dying after one or two tracks (as I previously mentioned), but this album is nowhere close to the quality of those albums. Giant props to the band for being able to pull this off.

Of course, the lyrical themes in this album are somewhat dark and deal with lots of different problems, but that just makes them better. I wouldn’t want this AWESOME sound go to waste on some pop artist’s spiel on how they had sex with a fling. Good job, MCR! Of note is that the album DOES technically have a story, but the album is considered pseudo-conceptual, so the entire album isn’t a story in and of itself. The story can be easily googled, so I’ll just save myself from time and not spend too much time on it here, since it’s not that important to the album.

Overall, this album is a must-listen for fans of rock. From awesome guitar melodies to insanely good vocals, you’re guaranteed to love this album.

Overall rating:

9.4/10
