The Art of War (Re-Armed) is a 2010 heavy metal album by the band Sabaton. It contains 13 tracks (17 on the version I reviewed, we’ll get to this later), spanning a little over an hour of music. The album explores themes found in the Chinese military treatise of the same name that was written by Sun Tzu. They mostly are based around real life military and war events that relate to The Art Of War.
That being said, the 13 tracks on the original version of the album are meant to represent the 13 chapters in the treatise of the same name. For example, the track “Ghost Division” speaks of strategies used by the real life division of the German army of the same name (officially known as the 7th Panzer Division).
Of course, though, most Sabaton music follows in the same theme of being about real life historical themes. This doesn’t make their music any less good though, as the history theme hasn’t gotten old, even despite the band using it in all of their music.
This album manages to have a sound that excels in all departments: vocals that match the epic tales that Sabaton tells, a glorious metal sound that goes along perfectly with the vocals, and lyrics that are full of meaning.
Some of the best tracks from this album include “The Art of War”, “Ghost Division”, and “Panzerkampf”. However, you really can’t go wrong with any of the tracks on this album. You really just can’t go wrong with Sabaton’s sound on this album.
Overall, The Art of War (Re-Armed) is a heavy metal extravaganza of historical tales that is a must-listen. Sabaton’s epic melodies on this album are sure to please fans of the genre as well as the casual listener.
Overall:
9/10
