Wynncraft (Original Soundtrack) is a 2014 album by Francis Mailloux and Salted. It’s a relatively short album, with 13 tracks that span a total of 23 minutes. The album consists of tracks which feature fantasy-themed instruments, including violins, drums, and a multitude of other instruments. The album has a thick orchestration; in other words, the album makes use of many different types of instruments, frequently being played at the same time.
The album starts off strong with the track “Forest Dance” - a fun, creatively orchestrated track that is a joy to listen to. The following tracks - such as “Icy Steps”, “Gavel Journey”, and “Detlas Suburb”, all have excellent orchestration which make them all unique and enjoyable to listen to. The closing track, “Black Road Nostalgia”, retains the quality that the very first track did. Overall, the album starts strong, and ends just as strongly. Props to everyone who played the instruments on this album.
By far the best part of the album is that clarinet that’s in all of these tracks (correct me if it’s not actually a clarinet, might’ve gotten it mixed up with another instrument), which is one of many instruments that contribute to the epics that Mailloux and Salted have created on this album. The way it follows along with the violins, the drums, and the various other instruments gives the album a - and this is probably the 3rd time I’m saying this - great orchestration.
My favorites tracks from the album are “Forest Dance”, “Gavel Journey”, and “Icy Steps”, although all of the tracks on this album are a good listen.
Overall, this album was orchestrated perfectly, which makes for an enjoyable album - even for someone who doesn’t usually listen to music featuring these instruments - and a multilayered sound which deserves to be appreciated. Good job, Mailloux and Salted.
