Jobie Reviews Music 69: Saxual Revolution (EP) by Sax Offender. Requested by F63.

Saxual Revolution is a 2019 jazz EP by Sax Offender. It’s a relatively short EP, containing only 4 tracks and lasting 8 minutes and 35 seconds. As you could (or couldn’t) tell by the cover and the name of the EP, this EP contains sax covers of classic Russian songs.

While I wouldn’t normally listen to sax covers, this album does a great job of doing what it’s trying to do; be a short, but also sweet, album containing some cool, jazzy tunes. There’s really nothing to comment on other than that - however I will point out that the album’s use of the piano here enhances the sax sound that it’s trying to accomplish.

By far the most recognizable song on the EP is “Anthem of the Ussr”, a sax cover of the USSR anthem. It’s a nice cover, capturing the essence of the original very well. The other tracks on this album are your typical classic Russian songs, such as “Bella Ciao” and “The Internationale”. There are no original tracks on this EP, but that’s not a bad thing. The covers hold up the EP on their own.

Overall, Saxual Revolution is a nice EP full of jazzy covers of Russian songs that is sure to please the average listener. Short, but sweet.
