Jobie Reviews Music 8: Bleed American (album) by Jimmy Eat World

Bleed American is the 4th album from Jimmy Eat World. It was originally released as Bleed American, then Jimmy Eat World after 9/11, and some time later seems to have retained the original name.

This album is a rock album, encompassing 11 tracks. The opening and titular song, “Bleed American”, is a great opening to the song. It has very catchy vocals, and overall great sound. Good track.

The track after, “A Praise Chorus (ft. Davey Vonbohlen)”, is not on the same level, but it’s still a good track. With good sound and pretty good vocal work, this is another good song from the album.

And then, you have another banger track. “The Middle”, which is, coincidentally, a song I heard before reviewing this, has a great sound to it, with lyrics to accompany it. Probably one of the more popular tracks on the album.

“Your House” is a departure from how the previous tracks sounded. This time, the track is mainly acoustic, which doesn’t feel out of place in the album. Many bands have done this before, including one of my favorite bands, Rise Against. On their album Siren Song of the Counter Culture, an acoustic track or two is sprinkled in with the powerful punk rock tracks, which makes for a nice bit of variety.

“Sweetness” brings back the rock sound. It is again another good track, having a great guitar sound accompanying the vocals. While the lyrics of the song aren’t that impressive, the vocals make up for it.

“Hear You Hear Me” is another acoustic track. Great vocals, great sound.

“If You Don’t, Don’t” is another good track. Has nice instrumental work throughout the sound, climaxing after the 2nd repeat of the chorus, letting out a unique mix of sounds.

“Get It Faster” opens with a very strange set of sounds, eventually leading into the vocals, which keep the strange sounds in the background for a bit before breaking into the familiar guitar sound. Nice vocals and sound.

“Cautioners” opens with a great guitar melody, which leads up to the vocals. The vocals are good, and compliment the instrumental very well.

“The Authority Song” is a decent track, just not as good as the others.

“My Sundown”, the final track on the album, is a softer track. The track has nice vocal and instrumental work throughout, and is the longest track on the entire album.

Overall rating: Good album, nice variety of music.

7.8/10
