Jobie Reviews Music 83: Getting Away With Murder (album) by Papa Roach

Getting Away With Murder is a 2004 hard rock album by Papa Roach. The album contains 12 tracks, spanning 38 minutes. The album is a major departure from the band’s previous albums, having a hard rock/alternative rock sound rather than their usual nu metal/rap metal sound. This makes for a much more appealing and accessible sound, with many of the tracks on here being very nice.

By far the biggest difference between, say, Infest and Getting Away With Murder is the quality of the tracks. Infest had plenty of tracks that were high quality, but Getting Away With Murder has absolutely no weak tracks. I personally prefer the sound on this album to Infest (so did a lot of others, apparently - check the Wikipedia article for this album to see what I mean), with the tracks on this album feeling more refined than Infest.

The album also has a lot more memorable tracks in general, such as the title track “Getting Away With Murder”, which is instantly recognizable even if you don’t listen to it for a while. This makes several tracks from the album have a high replay value, which can mostly be accredited to the awesome vocals and instrumentation.

Some of my favorite tracks from this album are “Blood (Empty Promises)”, “Not Listening”, and “Done With You”.

Overall, Getting Away With Murder is a nice change up from the likes of Infest, with tracks that have high replay value and emotionally charged tracks encompassing the 38 minute album. A good album all around.

Overall rating:
