Detox is a 2002 pop punk album by the band Treble Charger. It is 11 tracks long, spanning 38 minutes and 42 seconds of music. The album kicks off with the track “Hundred Million”, which is a track that really packs a punch in terms of instrumentation and vocals. It’s also the only track from this album I heard before reviewing this album - in fact, it’s already on my playlist.
After “Hundred Million”, however, the album shifts to a sound you’d expect from a pop punk album. Not quite Masked Intruder, but also quite The Lillingtons. These tracks also have good instrumentation and vocals - though sometimes tracks can sound the same as each other. The pop punk sound on this particular album takes a bit to get used to, but each track is still quite nice to listen to.
What listeners may find an issue with is the fact that there aren’t any tracks that follow in the same vein as “Hundred Million” - that is, the tracks that follow are less heavy. Even so, fans of bands like Masked Intruder may find that the less heavy tracks are actually quite good. As I said before, it’s not like they don’t have good instrumentation and good vocals - just don’t get your hopes up if you wanted more tracks like “Hundred Million”.
One issue that I have with the album is that none of the tracks - besides “Drive” - are all that memorable. They don’t really have anything that distinguishes them from each other - for example, a riff or something of the sort to make it easier to tell them apart. However, I will say that some tracks begin with a deeper guitar sound than others, so it’s not like they have the exact same sound as one another.
“Drive”, the final track, has an instrumental only section that lasts from around 4 minutes into the last second of the track. It sounds pretty awesome too, ending in a rather unconventional way. For this reason, it makes itself stand out from the other tracks on this album. A perfect way to wrap up this album indeed.
My favorite tracks from this album include “Over My Head”, “Hundred Million”, and “Drive”.
Overall, Detox, while sometimes unable to put out individually memorable songs, is still a great listen. Pop punk melodies and overall good sound encompass the album, and listeners are sure to find the track “Hundred Million” a favorite.
