Jobie Reviews Music 97: Page Avenue (US Non-PA Version) by Story Of The Year

Page Avenue (US Non-PA Version) is a 2003 emo/pop punk album (in my opinion, though, it leans more towards emo and post-hardcore) by Story Of The Year. The album is 12 tracks long, spanning 41 minutes and 47 seconds of music. The album’s notable for its unique, very refined sound which is one of the best rock sounds I’ve heard thus far.

The album accomplishes this through a variety of means - whether that be through its very distinct instrumentation - which is absolutely flawless, or its vocals, which are delivered incredibly well by Dan Marsala - or just the overall high quality sound that the album manages to deliver. It is through this means that Story Of The Year put out an album which can stand out against many other albums in the same genre, with their very unique blend of angsty vocals and instrumentation.

Each track manages to be individually memorable, especially the album’s first single, “Until the Day I Die”, which itself is an absolutely incredible track that highlights all of this album’s strengths perfectly. This makes tracks from this album highly replayable, with “Until the Day I Die” in particular remaining a great track, even after the 10th, 20th, or even 30th listen.

I’d also like to comment on track 12 of the album, which is also the final track on the 41 minute showcase of great sound, which has uncanny similarities to Rise Against’s earlier work. The track’s general composition is reminiscent of their album Siren Song of the Counter Culture, which I find is a welcome addition to the things that already make this album a great listen.

My favorite tracks from this album are “And The Hero Will Drown”, “Until the Day I Die”, “Page Avenue”, and “Razorblades”.

In conclusion, Page Avenue (US Non-PA Version) is still a solid album, even 18 years after its initial release. The album’s sound never grows tiring, and it’s no wonder the album has seen so much praise. You simply can’t go wrong with this album. I highly recommend that you listen to this one, especially if you’re a fan of rock music (like I am).
