Joe Glazer Sings Labor Songs II is a 2001 folk album by Joe Glazer. The album consists of 22 tracks, totaling 1 hour and 22 minutes of music. The album, like the first Joe Glazer Sings Labor Songs, contains songs which are significant to labor workers in some way. You’ll probably also recognize a few classics on here, such as the track “Sixteen Tons”, which many of you may know was also recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Joe Glazer delivers a nice, relaxing acoustic sound (much like the first Joe Glazer Sings Labor Songs did) that beautifully brings these songs alive. Especially songs like “Buffalo Creek Flood”, which are recorded with a mix of acoustic and other string instrument sounds. Joe Glazer’s sound makes one feel the humble, but also hard-working life of a laborer, with these calming tracks.
I’m not entirely sure if this is an issue on my end or the fault of whoever did the digital release - but “Pie in the Sky” features twice on two different tracks. These tracks aren’t missing, however - they’re just found in different tracks altogether. Very strange (THIS SECTION DOESN’T AFFECT THE SCORE).
Some of my favorite tracks from this album include “Sixteen Tons”, “Buffalo Creek Flood”, “Pie In the Sky”, and “Hospital Workers”.
Overall, this album is a nice follow up to the first Joe Glazer Sings Labor Songs. Definitely listen to this one if you enjoyed that album.
