The Divided States (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is a 2020 soundtrack (couldn’t find the actual genre) album by Kaiser Cat Cinema. It is 17 minutes long (quite shorter than other albums that I’ve reviewed), and contains 7 tracks. Despite the brevity of this album, it manages to be a beautiful album with captivating songs.
I don’t know anything about the movie this is from, but I still want to evaluate the soundtrack on a musical level. Even without having seen the movie, the album stands tall, with the tracks telling a story of a war-torn country in their own right. With such tracks like “Which Side”, you really get a feel for the absolute beauty of this album, from the powerful vocals to the matching piano melodies found throughout the entirety of the album.
Some of the highlights of this excellent album include “Which Side”, “Song of the United Front”, and “Yellow Rose of Texas”. The rendition of “It’s A Long Way To Tipperary” here is also quite nice. The album’s lyrics mostly revolve around the tale of a war-torn United States, such as in the track “Which Side”, which is talking about the two sides of a modern-day Civil War (the North and the South).
The source of the album’s greatness comes primarily from the gracious piano melodies which set the backdrop for some great vocals. This gives these tracks a sense of melancholy and sets the tone for the album.
Overall, if you wish to listen to some great piano melodies, complete with vocals to match, then this is the album for you. You might also like this album if you liked both Sings Civil War Songs… albums by Tennessee Ernie Ford, as they have similar, but also different, subject matter.
Overall rating:
9/10
