volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern is the third studio album by Lil Ugly Mane. Released in 2021, it is currently his most recent album.
The album is fairly diverse, exploring everything from lowkey trip-hop style beats ("cold in here") to utilizing samples of vintage songs ("styrofoam") to more guitar-driven instrumentals ("headboard") and a even a sort of "unplugged" style ("cursor"). Texture is a key strength of this album, keeping the listener engaged in its 19-song run by offering something different in each song and taking influences from a variety of genres.
Thematically, the album is a series of personal reflections, mostly centered around Mane recognizing his various flaws but also exploring how others have treated him poorly and brought him to his point of exhaustion ("benadryl submarine"). This is evident in Mane's exhausted, somber vocals as well; along with the general sound of the album they accentuate its reflective themes.
My favorite tracks from this album are hard to pick out, but I really like "benadryl submarine", "into a life", and "broken ladder"
Overall, volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern is an excellent album that you should definitely listen to for its constantly interesting sound that compliments its equally interesting thematic content.
