All My Heroes Are Cornballs is a 2019 experimental hip hop, punk rap, and avant-garde album by the rapper JPEGMAFIA. It is JPEGMAFIA's third studio album, and the first to be reviewed on Jobie's Bite-Sized Music Reviews. The album starts off with “Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot”, instrumentally and lyrically setting the feel for the rest of the album. With a suddenly changing instrumental, coupled with the abrupt usage of autotune while singing certain song lyrics, the song showcases what the listener should expect on most of the other tracks that are on the album. The album has a total of three featured artists, those being Helena Deland, Buzzy Lee, and Abdu Ali (in track order). While Buzzy Lee and Abdu contribute nice vocals to “DOTS FREESTYLE REMIX”, Helena Deland's closing vocals in “Free the Frail” are delivered beautifully, and close that track in an incredible way! Instrumentally, JPEGMAFIA manages to dip his toes in many genres, with sometimes electronic, sometimes industrialesque, sometimes experimental pop sound. Much texture and flavor is to be found in JPEGMAFIA's instrumentals - “Rap Grow Old & Die x No Child Left Behind” is a blend of keyboards, bass, and a piano. Despite the non-standard combination of instruments, all of these elements manage to combine together to create a great song. Lyrically, the album does pretty well, covering a boatload of topics (the behavior of people on the internet, social commentary, etc). However, “BUTTERMILK JESUS TYPE BEAT”, the second to last track on the album, is extremely devoid of any lyrics. This wouldn't normally be a flaw of the album, but the main difference here is that the lyrics really aren't that well written, and don't have time to go anywhere in the song's 1 minute and 9 second time span. Other than that track, there is really nothing wrong with this album in the lyrical department. My favorite tracks from All My Heroes Are Cornballs are “Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot”, “JPEGMAFIA TYPE BEAT”, “PTSD”, “BBW”, and “Free The Frail”. Overall, All My Heroes Are Cornballs sees JPEGMAFIA explore a multitude of genres, adding lots of texture and flavor to this album. The featured artists, especially Helena Deland, positively contribute to the album. Lyrically, all tracks except for “BUTTERMILK JESUS TYPE BEAT” do well in the lyrical department, covering an assortment of topics.
