Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix) is a 2017 EP* by experimental hip hop group Death Grips. It is their third EP, released after the album Bottomless Pit and a year before Year of the Snitch.
The EP consists of one** song, which is a mix of a handful of songs, combined into a 22 minute long track. The song can best be described as “Concentrated Death Grips: The Song”, with essentially all of the typical Death Grips elements present in this song. You've got Zach Hill's intense drumming, the crazy electronic soundscape of Andy Morrin, and MC Ride's signature vocals.
The length of the EP makes the track a 22-minute long, nearly endless barrage of pure, frantic Death Grips. I do not recommend this track as your first Death Grips experience, since, while not radically different from other Death Grips releases, the sheer degree and length of the insanity showcased on the EP's one track may be too much for first-time listeners. However, I highly recommend this track for people who have already listened to most of Death Grips' discography, as it is an enjoyable, generous, 22-minute long near-album from the group, which most fans will appreciate.
Since the EP technically one has one track, I do not have any favorite tracks from this EP. However, the drumming that kicks in around the 14 minute mark is quite enjoyable.
Overall, Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix) is a great, chaotic, and enjoyable EP from Death Grips. It is highly recommended that long-time fans take a listen to it, while first-timers listen to other Death Grips songs before listening to this EP. The EP (and therefore the only track on the EP) is pure, concentrated Death Grips, and is sure to be enjoyed by all Death Grips fans.
*Originally released digitally in 2017, later released with two more tracks in 2019 as a physical release. Although Spotify calls this a “single”, it is officially an EP.
**2019 physical release adds two more tracks.
