NEW “FAVORITES” FORMULA: I will be allowed to favorite a maximum of 33% of the tracks on the album. For instance, 12 tracks would equal 4 allowed favorites. In the case of this album, with its 32 tracks, I am allowed 10 favorites. For multi-disc albums, this formula applies to the disc itself and not the entire album. For instance, if I review a two-disc album that has one disc which contains 12 tracks, and another disc that contains 24, I will be allowed 4 favorites on the first disc and 8 on the second.

Dark Souls 3 is a 2016 soundtrack album by Various Artists*. The album includes the music for all of the boss fights, general music, and DLC boss fights in the game of the same name. The album has an orchestral, classic sound, incorporating a variety of instruments in its instrumentation – mainly stringed instruments. The artists who contributed to the soundtrack did an excellent job at soundtracking the game; every track on the album matches the tone and feel that the game needs during, for instance, epic boss battles. Speaking of boss battles, the boss themes on the album are very well orchestrated, with not one of these tracks feeling dull, boring, or otherwise uninteresting. Each of the boss battle themes is grandiose, which, as mentioned before, fits well in the context of Dark Souls 3. Vocals are also present on this soundtrack, filling the tracks they feature on with operaesque vocals that enhance one's enjoyment of the already grand tracks. Astonishingly, only four composers worked on this over 2 hour soundtrack, which is a massive accomplishment for a team of composers that had to compose 32 tracks for this game. The most prolific of the four composers that worked on the soundtrack is Yuka Kitamura, composing 71% of the game's soundtrack. Many of the composers that worked on this soundtrack worked on previous Dark Souls soundtracks. Motoi Sakuraba, for instance, has worked on Dark Souls soundtracks since the first Dark Souls! My favorite tracks from this album include, “Premonition”, “Dark Souls 3”, “Iudex Gundyr”, “High Lord Wolnir”, “Pontiff Sulyvahn”, “Dragonslayer Armour”, “Nameless King”, “Yhorm the Giant”, “Slave Knight Gael”, and “Epilogue”. Overall, Dark Souls 3 is a great soundtrack album, composed by a team of four composers. Each track fits Dark Souls 3 very well, with the boss fight tracks being some of the most grand, epic tracks on the entire album. Fans of video game soundtracks will want to check out the Dark Souls 3 sountrack.
*Motoi Sakuraba, Nobuyoshi Suzuki, Tsukasa Saitoh, Yuka Kitamura.
